Doug's Prayer

Doug & Girls Hi my name is Doug. I was injured in a mva on 12/22/94. I was driving alone on a cold rainy night. At 9:35PM I was T-boned in my Camaro. They say I just ran right through a red light. After the vehicles came to rest they couldn't find me. Where was the driver of the Camaro? They found me under the other vehicle. I was considered a fatality. I was taken by helicopter to St. Josephs BNI trauma center. After surgery to remove my spleen and assessing 7 broken ribs, I would have been fine except for the head injury, which was considered probably fatal at the time. A tube was placed in my head to monitor the pressure. No trache. That was surprising. All the life support was in place. I suffered a severe TBI. After a hospital stay I have been in 4 different nursing homes. My dad is writing this because you see I can't. There was and is no operation or procedure that will help me. A little rehab helped a bit but that is now at a standstill. My mom and dad come everyday and help me. I am 37 years old, divorced and have 3 daughters. Tina,16, Dana,15, and Sarah 14. I was in a coma for 10 months. Doug, Mom & Dad I am still in what they consider a level four. In that first year I had several close calls with death. In February 95 I had a blood clot with blood poisoning and was hospitalized, and while there devoloped pneumonia and my parents were told I would not survive but a few days. They suggested we call in Hospice but my parents said no. I made it. In June 95 I went into a complete shutdown. No bp, turned blue and was ice cold. They had me on a table hanging upside down. I guess trying to get blood to the brain. Dr.'s said I would be gone in just two hours. Everyone waited for the word of my passing. Just about 2 hours later the Dr. and the nurse came to the waiting room and announced that all vitals were now normal but I had pneumonia again. The Lord was with me. In September 95 I had another blood clot and this time they were considering taking my left arm. But again I beat it. In that first year I went from 185 lbs to 130 lbs. I lyed motionless for 10 months. I uttered moaning sounds occasionally. 1996 was a good year, many colds and minor things, thank the Lord. Guess the body had healed and was stabilizing.
