***There's nothing mild about brain injury*** M T B I meets monthly on the 3rd Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at LINC, INC. located at 120 East A Street, Belleville, Illinois 62220, 618 235 9988. M T B I has been meeting for four years. MTBI attendance ranges from 10 to 26 persons. We have addressed such topics as: Brain Injury and Sexuality, Accessible Resources, Applying for Home Care and Personal Attendants, Hydrothermia therapy. We also have been actively involved with local events such as the ADA Awareness Picnic held in early summer in Fairview Heights, Illinois. We want to thank the guest speakers who gave of their time and patience to present appropriate topics to our group. We hope you visit us as we offer a safe place to express yourself. We plan to develop a newsletter. MTBI has found that transportation is one of the biggest barriers after traumatic brain injury. Other barriers discussed by the group were: access to adequate health care, accessibility to public businesses and places of worship, access to SSI and public assistance due to permanent disability, discriminating experiences from the community, and disrespect for Handicapped Parking. Some of the members of MTBI found that even in hospital parking lots, persons were not hindered from parking in the striped zone on either side of a designated handicap parking area. Come voice your ideas. For further information regarding MTBI, click on the link below or call LINC,INC at 618 235 9988.
